First of all, I just wanted to remind everyone that I have only 4 spots left for the Raptors outing on April 15th for the morning session when the light should be nice and then lunch in Port Dover, at The Beach House Restaurant, where we can take some photos of the lighthouse and the beach. Register as soon as possible to guarantee a spot for you to take photos of the owls, eagles, hawks and especially the newest raptor at the Raptor Conservancy the Gyr Falcon and more.
I will be collecting the $56.50 from those who have registered for the morning session on the first meeting in March. (March 5th and March 20th.)
Here are the newest outings:
February 22, 2018: London Camera Club presentation Dr. Don Gutoski
This is not really an outing to photograph, however, I am told that Dr. Don Gutoski is a wonderful presenter who is a wildlife photographer.
You may, again, have seen this on the SWOPA facebook page as Dr. Gutoski will be presenting at the London Camera Club on Feb 22nd between 7:30 pm to
Dr. Don Gutoski is a physician at the Urgent Care Centre of St. Joseph's Health Care in London. He is also an active conservationist, naturalist, and an award-winning wildlife photographer. In 2015, he was awarded "World Wildlife Photographer of the Year"
He will discuss "Photographing Wildlife of Botswana, from travel suggestions to equipment and techniques in the field", and, "World Photographer of the year" contest.
Admission is $10 for non-members.
I am planning on going to this presentation, and if you are interested, please register and we can carpool together.
I will be leaving Sarnia at 5:30 pm so that I can find a parking spot.
Please register as soon as possible.
March 17, 2018 - "Wildlife Photographer of the Year " & ROM
The Wildlife Photographer of the Year Exhibition at ROM will be over on March 18, 2018. It is an amazing Exhibition that should not be missed.
As I am very busy from now until March 10th, March 17th seems to be the best date, before it closes. Of course, we are not allowed to photograph this exhibition, however, we can photograph the rest of the exhibitions and galleries in ROM.
If you are interested in this, please register here. To save us time once we get there (so that we don't have to wait in line) we can go online to buy the tickets.
Make sure it is the "ROM + Wildlife" (see below)
Adult ROM + Wildlife $28.00
Child ROM + Wildlife$18.00
Senior ROM + Wildlife$23.00
Student ROM + Wildlife$21.50
Youth ROM + Wildlife$21.50
We will meet at the New Giant Tiger plaza close to London Road and carpool. As it is a 3-hour drive, we will leave at 6:45 am. This should get us there close to 10 am when ROM will be open. After we see the "Wildlife Photographer of the year" exhibition, there is a large cafeteria downstairs and we will have lunch there and go back to see the rest of the exhibitions until about 4:30 pm. We will leave and walk to the Parking garage, or a lot depending on where we have parked, and drive back stopping at Cambridge Onroute for something to eat and then get back on our way home. We should be back by 8:30 or 9:00 pm depending on the traffic.
May 9, 2018 - Shooting Warblers (SWOPA Outing):
Windsor Camera Club has organized an outing for SWOPA members on May 9th. You may have seen the flyer for it on the SWOPA and Sarnia Photography Club Facebook pages.
This is on a Wednesday (May 9th). We are to meet at 8 am at Roma Club, 19 Seacliffe Dr. East, Leamington. A bus will take us to Pelee Visitors Centre from there. This is probably the best way to get in as the bus will bypass any of the line up of cars that will start to line up around 6 am as per Graham Brown from the Windsor Club.
The cost is $15. We have to make a reservation with the Windsor Club so please register on the website and then go to the following link and pay your $15 by Paypal.
Gear to bring: your longest lens, tripods optional.
What to wear: Layers. Mornings are cool, but it should be warm by noon.
Lunch will be at 12:30 pm at the Roma Club. Buffet is $12.50 tax included
We will meet at Food Basics parking lot at 5:45 am and carpool to the Roma Club from there. It is about a 2-hour drive which is why so early.
There are only 47 seats in the bus and the earlier the RSVP's the better. (RSVP by paying the $15)
Looking forward to your registration.
