We will meet at the Shoppers Drug Mart in Bright's Grove at 9:00 am on Thursday February 15th. Park near Lakeshore Road. I drive a filthy Blue Ford Edge. We will arrange car pooling at that time. Bring your provincial park pass if you have one. There are no food facilities at Pinery, so bring your lunch and drinks.
After visiting the heated washroom near the entrance, we will go to the parking lot at Beach #9 to take pictures of Chickadees, Nuthatches, Tufted Titmouse(s) and perhaps a red bellied woodpecker if we are lucky. You should bring a zoom lens if you have one. The birds come very close and we will be able to feed them from our hands. Bring bird seed too! There is a toilet at Parking lot #9 but it has no running water or heat.
It is possible to walk to the beach from Parking Lot #9 but there is a lot of snow - deep snow. Snow shoes are a good item to bring to get to the beach or to go on the Heritage Trail. We will go over to the visitor centre and see if there are birds there. It may be possible to hike the Cedar Trail as that trail gets more traffic than Heritage Trail.
The weather looks sunny and fairly warm for Thursday. However, when standing around taking pictures of birds, you need to dress WARMLY. Long underwear, really good warm boots, hats, mittens. Hand warmers are great too.
